What are Veneers?
Veneers are thin, permanent covers for the front of your teeth that give them the appearance of flawlessness. They can cover the imperfections that appear on your teeth over time like cracks, chips, and discoloration that cannot be corrected with whitening treatments.
While many people assume that veneers don’t look natural or make your teeth appear too perfect, this isn’t necessarily the case. Veneers are custom fit and made to be the color of your natural teeth or just a couple of shades whiter if you prefer (not stark white or unnaturally shiny). You can get a veneer to cover only one tooth or a whole set to give you a symmetrical smile.
What Do Veneers Do?
There are few flaws that veneers can’t fix, at least when it comes to your teeth. Veneers can eliminate the appearance of:
- Wide or uneven gaps
- Abnormally tiny teeth
- Crooked teeth
If you have these or other imperfections in your smile, your dentist at Aesthetic Dental Centers can help you determine if veneers are your best option. Typically, veneers are a good option for fixing teeth that are visible and aren’t used for chewing (even though they’re quite strong).
What Types of Veneers are Available?
You have a couple of options for material when choosing your veneers. Each available material has advantages and drawbacks, so it’s important to consider your lifestyle and habits when making your choice.
- Porcelain Veneers: Porcelain veneers are strong and last for a long time. Many people favor them because they are tough to stain, so they keep their color (which looks natural, too).
- Composite Resin Veneers: Composite resin veneers are not as durable as porcelain veneers, but they’re generally cheaper and easier to put on. While porcelain veneers take several appointments for fitting and require lots of time and effort to be fixed if they’re damaged, composite resin veneers are easier to repair and quick to put on.
